best friends

It's nice to have two kids - as it was nice to have one, and I'm sure it'd be nice to have 3 (or more - you see where I'm going, right?).

What I enjoy most is how much they enjoy each other. I watched them play outside the other day... running all over the yard, wrestling in the grass, playing tag on the climber, pushing each other on the swing. It was great.

At some point, while I was watching them, it occurred to me, that at that moment, I was not needed. They had each other, and were more than satisfied. What a sublime feeling!

Goose

I spent today with just Abby.
It was delicious - more satisfying than a dark chocolate fudge cake!!! Just had to share...

Vacation

Since having Max 4 and a 1/2 years ago, I don't think that it can be said that I've had a vacation. Certainly not in the commonly defined sense of the word. I've had time of from work. Even two or three weeks at a time!! But there is no vacation from "mummy". And no vacation from "wife". And no vacation from "friend". And no vacation from "sister".

Not that I necessarily want a vacation from any of those things... I'm mostly trying to say that as with many things, I've had to redefine what a vacation is. It really is about not being at work. it's about doing laundry without a kid clinging to my leg. It's about the 5 hours between dropping the kids off at daycare and then picking them up again later. Squeezing in a dentist appointment, a haircut, grocery shopping, and banking - all accomplished completely alone!!!

I've been on vacation for almost a week, and I'm ready to have a vacation from my vacation now...

how is it April??

When I woke up this morning it was April. Somehow I lived through February and March, and woke up smack in the middle of April.

It's almost time for the snails to come back, to start the seeds that will grow into our garden, and to get out the toys for the sandbox. Bubble season is upon us, and we have a tub of sidewalk chalk just waiting to be used by my young Picasso's.

While it seems that a few months have escaped me, I am excited that it is spring. Jeans and sweater weather. It's that eternal season of rebirth - and like most people, I could use a rebirth every once in awhile...
